The Importance of a Morning Routine

There's beauty in a brand new day. Every morning we have a new opportunity to become a better and happier version of ourselves. A morning routine sets the tone for the whole day and it doesn't have to be complicated and long. A routine is supposed to help simplify our daily lives, motivating us, and we can use that opportunity to our advantage. In this reading, we will discuss how to create your own morning routine, how to start your day right, and ideas to have a more productive day.

It's crucial to find activities that help you get out of your bed, either making your first cup of coffee or simply brushing your teeth. What's makes you want to get out of bed. What makes you feel happy and excited? What's the first thing you want to do after you wake up?

The thing is, it doesn't have to be mundane or boring. You can use your imagination and start your day however you want and whatever you feel best. When I first creating my 5 AM morning routine, I started my day by watching my favorite TV show first thing after I woke up. Some people might say, "that's not healthy," or "that's not how you suppose to start your day." Well, it worked and it helped me to make my foundation to become a morning person and excited to wake up every single morning.

A morning routine is the beginning of your schedule, thus it's normal that things won't always go exactly as you would hope. You have to develop a habit to adapt and stick to your morning routine as often as possible. The key is to learn to be flexible if something unexpected happens. Ultimately, the goal is to complete your entire morning routine without thinking. The best way to make any behavior change is to make it as simple as possible, realistic, and achievable.

There are 2 types of people in the morning; people who have their energy within the first hour after they wake up and people who need more time to build their energy after they wake up. Which type of person are you? When is your power hour? Once you have your answers, it's easier to create a morning routine that suits your personality, and therefore enjoyable for you to accomplish.

Tips:

If you're the first person who has full energy after you wake up, try to finish your big and hard tasks (workout, take a shower, or make breakfast) within the first hour after you wake up. If you're the other person who likes to start your day with a slow morning, try to do things that fuel your motivation and visualize your day within the first hour. The key is to combine activities that you enjoy the most, but are also productive and help you ready to start your day.

Reasons why you should get out of bed:

  • Watch the sunrise

  • Morning walk

  • To feel the warmth of the sun and hear the bird chirping

  • Coffee, tea, or matcha

  • Fun AM playlists

  • Watch your favorite YouTubers or new episode of your favorite TV shows

  • Cuddle with your pet

  • Get ready, beautify and accessorize yourself

  • Have breakfast with your family or partner

  • Check your horoscope or The Pattern

  • Read fiction or non-fiction, whichever you feel best to motivate and inspire yourself

I can guarantee, once you have your reasons why you want to get out of bed, you can forget your snooze button. Your reasons work like magic! Now that you have your reasons, we can dive deeper into how to create your own morning routine. A successful, healthy, and productive morning routine should focus on these 3 main things:

  • Get A Head Start

  • Tune In To Your Greater Self

  • Visualize Your Day

GET A HEAD START

Prepare in advance from the day or night before to avoid having to rush in the morning and to reduce the numbers of the decision to make. Once you've prepared, you'll have a set of expectations on how your days would go, you can put your focus onto the more important tasks and start your day with a positive mindset.

  • Fill in your to-do list from the day or night before

  • Prepare your clothing or workout attire

  • Use a time block system to manage your time more wisely

  • Habit tracker, customize in order from the first step of your morning routine to the last step

  • Have your meal plan ready

TUNE IN TO YOUR GREATER SELF

What better way to start your day fresh, calm, focused, and worry-less than to tune in with yourself. I can't stress to you enough how important this step is to start your day right. You can:

  • Spend 5 minutes to close your eyes, breathe slowly and let your mind roam free. By doing this, you'll achieve a much clearer headspace and peacefulness. The common name for this exercise is Meditation.

  • Set your intention for the day by journaling. Write down whatever you're feeling at the current moment and how you want to spend the day.

  • Read a self-help book. It can help you achieve a new perspective about life and solutions to daily problems.

  • Daily affirmations. You can repeat your mantra that you've set every year or every month. You can either write them on a book or write them down on a flashcard, and go through them every single morning (which is what I do.)

  • Check your daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly goals. Make sure that you're going forward and your daily actions reflect your attempt to achieve them

VISUALIZE YOUR DAY

Did you know that 65 percent of people are visual learners? These are by far my favorite activities of my morning routine. I'm a big visual person and I like to gather lots of ideas and inspiration at the very beginning of my morning ritual. Seeing is believing. You can visualize your day by:

  • Pinning lots of motivating lifestyle pins on Pinterest

  • Visit your monthly vision board (if you have one)

  • Watch my current favorite lifestyle YouTubers ( Moya Mawhinney, Vanessa Tiiu, Meg Hughes )

  • Listen to classical or jazz music on Spotify

There you have it! I would love to hear your suggestion and how you create your morning routine. Hopefully, this article would help you get a little bit of insight on the importance of a morning routine and inspires you to create your own morning ritual to set you off to a more productive day!
